While not a strategic objective of the US Eight Army's plan to retake Mindanao in 1945, the Liberation of Cagayan de Oro came about due to confluence of planned events. With US air and naval support, Filipino Gurillas of the 10th Military District under Col. Wendell W. Fertig wrested the regional capital of Northern Mindanao on May 12, 1945 from garrison troops of the Imperial Japanese Army's 35th Panther Division.

On October 18, 1944, on his 23rd mission, Navy pilot Ensign William Foye of the USS Enterprise was forced to bail out as his plane was shot by the Japanese over Los Banos, Laguna. Guerrillas of the PQOG and the civilians of the town saved, hid and, protected Foye for 3 and a half months, and paid a terrible price, as atrocious reprisals were carried out by the Japanese on the local population. Join us in this incredible story of courage, sacrifice, and luck, as Richard Foye, Ensign William Foye's son recount his father's odyssey in the jungles and towns of Southern Luzon.
